CIC asks for permit from CBSE: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has asked the Central board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for a permit to check the Textile Minister Smriti Irani’s class 10th and 12th records, denying the argument stating that it is a personal info.

The order has been passed by Sridhar Acharyulu, an Information Commissioner. He had recently passed an order for getting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BA degree records of DU checked for the year 1978. He was divested of the Human Resource Dept Charge by the Chief Information Commissioner R K Mathur.
“The CPIO has not put forward any material or justification to say that such disclosure of academic qualification-related information shall cause unwarranted invasion of privacy of Smriti Irani in this case…Result or contents of certificate, division acquired, year and number along with father’s name cannot be treated as personal or third party information”, he said.
Last year, the case that had been filed against her was said to be initiated with an intent to harass her, the court had said.
Acharyulu, giving further clarification said that the results or the contents of the certificate, division acquired, year and number along with Father’s name should not be treated as personal information.
Acharyulu said that CBSE has been asked to present the information before it within a time period of 60 days. A voter has the right to check the educational qualifications of a public representative. Smriti Zubin Irani is a Member of Parliament and heads the Textile Ministry under the Union.
