Queen Elizabeth II Died at the Age of 96 on Thursday

In an official announcement, Buckingham Palace stated “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon”. 

After a year of various health issues, Queen Elizabeth II passed away 

According to Buckingham Palace, she tested COVID-19 positive in February, and was being monitored for minor cold-like symptoms. 

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She ruled the United Kingdom for seven decades. 

Queen Elizabeth II, the world's oldest and longest-reigning monarch, ascended the throne on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI. 

Prince Philip, the queen's husband, passed away last year at the age of 99. 

The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth, Charles, 73, is now king of the United Kingdom. 

Prince Charles is the head of state for 14 other realms, including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
