Anne Heche, who was reportedly injured in a car accident on August 5, has died. She was a 53-year-old Emmy Award-winning actress from the United States.

Heche had crashed his car into a house in the  Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles just one week ago. The actress was in critical condition.  

Anne Heche, mother of two sons died on Friday.  Her eldest son, Homer (20 years old), expressed his grief in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.

My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom. After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.

"

He also said,

Over those six days, thousands of friends, family, and fans made their hearts known to me. I am grateful for their love, as I am for the support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi who continue to be my rock during this time. Rest In Peace Mom, I love you.

Anne Heche's ex James Tupper also paid tribute to the actress through his Instagram post and wrote, "love you forever".

Anne was known for her roles in the soap opera Another World (1987–1991) and films Volcano, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Six Days Seven Nights, Wag the Dog, and the 1998 remake of Psycho.

Heche was also known for the ABC romantic comedy series Men in Trees, which aired from 2006-2008. 

The film Gracie's Choice (2004) in which Heche was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
