Gwendolyn Midlo Hall  1929-2022

The historian passed away after a stroke and return of breast cancer at her son's house in Guanajuato, Mexico. Hall's son Haywood said.

In a statement on August 29, Whitney Plantation confirmed Hall's death.

Gwendolyn Midlo was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 27, 1929.

To change our perception of the origins of American culture, she went extensively through the archives.

Gwendolyn Midlo Hall is most known for creating a database of more than 100,000 individuals who were once held as slaves and lived in Louisiana.

Whitney Plantation expressed its gratitude for Gwendolyn Midlo Hall's contributions to African American history and for her devoted support of the plantation.

Dr. Gwendolyn Midlow Hall was a dear friend of Whitney Plantation and a great historian.
