Over the years getting a tattoo has become like getting an ice-cream. With the opening of many tattoo parlors many artists have taken to this art form and made a career out of it. Now-a-days it is a highly professional line of work. Getting tattoos could be for any number of reasons but in psychology it suggests that it is strongly empirically associated with deviance, personality disorders, and criminality.
People from all walks of life get themselves tattooed. Some for peace, rebellion, love, anger, frustration, beauty. For some people it is an art form and for some it is degradation of the human body. Everyone has their own opinion about Tattoos.
There are some basic necessities that need to be taken care of if planning on getting a tattoo. A permanent tattoo is easy to get but to remove; it is quite an expensive and painful affair. Make sure that one is not allergic to the paint/ink used in the process of tattooing and also not allergic to one’s skin by consulting a dermatologist beforehand. Make double sure that the needles are properly sterilized to avoid infections like HIV, hepatitis.
Here are some tips that may come handy if planning on getting a tattoo :
- Skin Infections: Tattoos can become infected even with a sterile needle in case the ink has bacteria present in it. Symptoms that appear are, red rashes, swelling, and pain. It may take 2-3 weeks for an infection to become visible.
- Infections like HIV and hepatitis due to re-use of needles: One should make sure that the needles used for tattooing are sterilized properly. Infections such as HIV and Hepatitis can happen if proper care is not taken.
- Scarring: Tattoos may also lead to tissue scars, it happens as the body tries to get rid of the foreign material(ink). It can lead to tiny bumps on the skin.
- Hematoma: It is an abnormal collection of blood outside of a blood vessel. It occurs because the wall of a blood vessel wall, artery, vein, or capillary, has been damaged if the blood vessel gets punctured by the needle and blood has leaked into tissues where it does not belong.
- Allergic reactions: Tattoo inks especially red, green, yellow and blue, can cause allergic skin reactions, such as an itchy rash at the place of the tattoo. If someone is allergic to the ink they may not know that until the tattoo is done. This can also happen even years after you get the tattoo. These allergic reactions happen mainly due to the exposure to sunlight.
Be aware of these complications when getting a tattoo , it may be a simple affair but if proper care in not taken it can be very hazardous to one’s health and life.
