Samir Thapar arrested: In a thrilling raid in a forest near Lansdowne, Pauri, Police has arrested a group of business Tycoon on the eve of New Year during a raid. Police nabbed Samir Thapar, the chairman of JCT Mills and a kin of Amitabh Bachchan for violating Forest Act. Police have also recovered telescopic rifles and a large amount of meat.
The DGP of Uttarakhand MA Ganapathy told to leading news portal that meat in bulk have been sent to the forensic lab to find whether the meat was processed or was part of a secret poaching mission in deep forests that are located near famous Jim Corbett National Park.
According to sources around 10 females including top models were there with Samir Thapar and his group which consisted of a dozen socialites and businessmen from Delhi. Thapar and his group have been sent to police custody for 14 days however females were not arrested.
Police raided three guest house where a group was camping
The police has also raided the three guest houses which were booked by the Thapar at the Kolhu Chaur forest guest house in Lansdowne forest division when it got information about some people carrying weapons and sporting military-style outfits.
During a raid Police found a number of people at the three suites in the guest house as well as in the tents pitched inside the house’s area. Police has also seized carton boxes of premium scotch, expensive wine and beer from the cars parked inside the premises of guest house.
As per sources, at least 171 liquor bottles of several brands, a 300bore rifle along with 23 alive cartridges and a telescope, a 375 bore rifle along with 15 live cartridges were also recovered from the spot. Thousands of empty bottles were also found from near the forest dak Bungalow where the group was camping.
An FIR has been registered against Mohinder Singh under Section 60 of the Excise Act for being in a possession of illicit liquor and aginst Arif Hussain under Sections 25/30 of the Arms Act for floating license regulations.
Permitting entry to a group stated the involvement of the department’s official, says sources
Sources in Police department said an involvement of top officials who permitted entry of armed guest deep inside the forest are not ruled out. ” its shocking to discover that the rich and famous guests from Delhi entered with intention of hunting wild animals but the forests officials seem to be ignorant of their action.”
An arrest of industrialist Samir Thapar has not come as surprise for the WWF because it had been earlier alleged arrested one of his family members poaching in the national Park for years ago and were let off on a similar charge due to political support.
