BJP-SAD sweeps Municipal Corporation Election with clear Majority, wins 20 seats out of 26

Municipal Corporation Election: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) sweep the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation polls on Tuesday with a clear majority.

Municipal corporation elections were seen as an acid test for BJP after demonetizationCongress  made the issue of demonetization ahead of Municipal corporation election  to grab attention of  people

The alliance amid BJP-SAD won 20 out of 26 wards while Congress could win 4 and one Independent, said official of the spokesperson of the election office. BJP Mayor Arun Sood and Congress Stalwart Devinder Singh Babla were among the prominent winners.

Municipal corporation elections were seen as an acid test for BJP after demonetization

The percentage of voting in the Chandigarh Municipal election was 59.5 percent. The elections were really seen as the acid test for BJP and Congress in the season of demonetization.

Total 122 candidates, including 67 independents, contested the polls. At the same time, Total 5, 07,627 people including 2, 37,374 women cast their votes. BJP and Congress contested elections from all the wards while BSP contested from 17wards.

On the other hand, out of 36 Municipal corporation members, 26 are elected councilors; nine are nominated councilors and one is an MP. In the earlier house, Congress had 9 councilors, BJP and 15, BSP one and one was independent.

Congress  made the issue of demonetization ahead of Municipal corporation election  to grab attention of  people

Interestingly, Congress had made the issue of demonetization move taken by the Modi government thinking that it could get the sympathy of voters and also able to get vanish its stains of corruption. But People of city beautiful showed once again they are with the Modi government.  Demonetization was the issue raised by the Congress in its campaign saying that the government had not made a proper roadmap prior its announcement which has now become the trouble for the common people.
