Recently, BMW Group has been slowly unveiling its Vision Next 100 concept vehicles of all brands including Rolls-Royce, BMW and Mini. All these concept vehicles seem to redefine the automobile industry with their innovative designs. With the whole world talking about self-driving cars, BMW has suddenly stepped into the limelight with its BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 concept motorbike. It is gorgeous, futuristic, eco-friendly, astonishingly safe and it will blow your mind!
All about the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 Concept Motorbike
We used some very good words to describe this concept bike by BMW Motorrad, isn’t it? Well, what can we say, it is that good!
Now we are going cover a few points which will tell you what makes this bike so spectacular. Here we go then.
- So safe that you won’t be needing helmets anymore
The concept bike will come with a gyroscope. For those of you who have been living under a rock and have no clue about what a gyroscope is, it is a device which can help provide stability. No, it does not mean that you cannot get those lean angles on the bike. It means that the gyroscope will be working closely with the ECU and will make sure that you never fall off from the bike due to lack of traction. It also means that the motorcycle will keep standing straight without the help of your feet or a stand.
The Driver Assistance feature will also keep an eye on the environment, speed, route etc to ensure that you are safe and don’t end up having a taste of the tarmac.
- A one-of-a-kind frame
You do know about the frames and how they consist of many joints? Well, that is going to change. BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 concept bike has a flexible frame. No, I am not whacked out of my mind. BMW Motorrad has developed a unique frame that is flexible in the sense that when the rider will turn the handle, the entire body will adjust according to it.
- Old design with a brand new powertrain
The vintage boxer shape of the engine has been carried forward to the bike. However, the drivetrain will have zero emissions. Eco-friendly! The company has not given out any other details like acceleration, top speed, engine displacement etc. Here comes a surprise. The boxer shape of the engine is subject to change. It will extend outwards as the rider picks up speed in order to enhance aerodynamics.
- Goggles on, please!
The BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 concept motorbike is going to redefine the future designs, right? Another thing which will contribute to the redesigning part is the omission of the traditional instrument cluster. Instead, it will show you all the vital information on a head-up display. Since there is not a lot of room on a next-gen bike for display; it uses goggles for the same. The goggles display some basic information like speed and two horizontal lines which will recommend you cornering lines and banking angels.
- Are goggles not enough? Look down, will ya?
If you feel like the information on the goggles is not enough, you can have a look at the area where the ‘older’ bikes used to have an instrument cluster. There, you will see that a menu pops up. All you need to do is point a finger for making a selection. Glance below that and a map will show up. Sounds impressive, doesn’t it?
- Dress to kill
Just because the bike is super safe does not mean you have to let go of the riding attire. I understand that it is super attractive and has become a part of the biking community. So does BMW Motorrad. That is why they have designed an ultra lightweight suit that provides warmth or chill to the rider as per the requirement while keeping comfort a top priority. It will also vibrate in order to warn the rider in case it detects a possible threat.
- Safe is not dull
While the frenzy is around completely autonomous vehicles, BMW does not agree with it completely. Edgar Heinrich, Design Director, BMW Motorrad said, “We do not envision autonomy on motorcycles.”This means that thought the bike is smart enough, it will require human presence as well as inputs. The drive assist will kick-in in case the rider makes an error but otherwise, it will remain silent.
Describing motorcycling, Heinrich said, “Riding a motorcycle is the ultimate sensual and analogue experience in a more and more digital world. The wind in your hair, the centrifugal forces, the indescribable feeling in pit of your stomach.” His words point out towards the essentiality of human intervention and the experience which a rider has while riding and BMW does not want to take that away in its Vision Next 100.
As much as we all would just want to jump on of the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 motorcycle, it is not going to happen anytime. According to the company executives, the plan is introduce the bike somewhere around 2021-2022. That means a long wait. Let us just hope that it turns out worth the wait. Stay tuned for more updates.
