The Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday breathed a sigh of relief when the court granted bail to him. He was appeared in the court on Wednesday in Bhiwandi for accusing RSS as the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in his speech just ahead of Lok Sabha election in 2014, later the court granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 15,000. The former union minister Shivraj Patil stood as security for the bail for the Congress leader.
RSS filed the case against Rahul Gandhi for his remark
The next hearing is scheduled on January 30, 2017. A local RSS functionary, Rajesh Kunte had filed the case against Rahul Gandhi over his anti-RSS- remark ahead of Lok Sabha election on March 6, 2014. During the rally, Rahul had allegedly accused the RSS saying that the RSS people had killed Gandhi. On the other hand, Bombay high court had last year refused to grant bail Rahul any relief in the proceedings.
Court refused Rahul’s plea to quash the criminal defamation
Meanwhile, the High Court dismissed Rahul’s plea to quash the criminal defamation case, however also exempted him from a personal appearance before the magistrate in Bhiwandi. After that, Rahul Gandhi moved to Supreme Court with a special leave petition for permission in order to challenge the HC dismissal of the plea.
Later, addressing a gathering of party workers, Rahul Gandhi said he made his appearance in court to fight for the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. There an ideology of freedom and another of slavery, I am fighting with those who want to bend India so they can rule the country he added.
