Demonetisation in India: It has been a week since PM Modi announced the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and since then a frantic wave has washed over the nation. People have been complaining of the hassle that the move brought, while the ones who haven’t been much hit by the hassle are all praises for this move.
Demonetisation in India – Death Toll reaches 35
Till now 35 people have died due to demonetization, some due to tension overload, some succumbed to prolonged illness since they couldn’t be treated due to lack of funds and yet others couldn’t stand the botheration of standing in a km long queues for ATMs. A bank cashier also died owing to gigantic workload.
Many weddings have been cancelled and yet others postponed since families lack adequate funds.
PM Narendra Modi and many other BJP leaders have been invited to the grand wedding of former BJP leader Gali Janardhan Reddy’s daughter’s wedding in which Rs 500 crores are being spent. Gali had been involved in the 2G scam.
PM Modi has asked his party members to not attend the wedding. The reason for this is supposed to avoid speculation by media especially when the nation is hard hit by demonetization. Also, questions have been surfacing – How is a former BJP politician still managing to spend such a huge amount of money, when the entire nation is falling short of functional currency?
The masses are of the view that only if the move was well-thought out, the quandary could have been avoided easily.
