Desi Email IDs Anyone? Now Google and microsoft provides desi email ids:- Today, internet has become a major part of our life. Whether we have to book a ticket, a cab, or to buy something, all requires access to internet. As we are continuously using internet, Email ID’s have also become important for an individual. We are a part of a continent where language matters a lot.
One can only access internet if he or she is literate, so for solving the issue of language barrier, the Indian Government has come up with the idea of providing Desi email ID’s to the people so as to get online and can enjoy the services of internet.
It’s a great idea that the Indian Government is going to work for all the people to get maximum benefits of the internet. According to the Indian census of 1961, over a thousand languages are spoken in India and out of which only 22 languages have been given the status of official languages in the country.

The literacy is a major issue in India and many Indians are lacking behind while using the internet. As per a survey, only 29 per cent Indians were able to access the Internet in 2015 which has been risen to just a little amount of 34.8 per cent in 2016. The Rajiv Bansal who is joint secretary in the ministry of electronics and IT, an Email ID is necessary for an individual so that he or she can access the basic available internet services.
He also said that a huge number of people in India do not know English. For resolving this problem, the government of India asked some of the email service providers in India, Rediff, Google and Microsoft. This step was taken to enable users to sign up for an email ID in their local language, initiating with Hindi language.
The Rediff.com is one of the most well-known online search and email service providers which liked the idea very much. The Ajit Balakrishnan, CEO of Rediff said that “The idea is great, I believe,” in his statement. The CEO also said that the consumption of content with local language is working well but the cost of using the internet is still high.
If the government reduces the cost of using internet and make it an affordable one, the mission will achieve its success. A person from Microsoft said that, “Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and organisation on the planet to achieve more, and as part of this mission, we are committed to develop solutions that help create economic opportunities and build IT skills by facilitating the use of local languages.”
The mission is on the way and is rising well. Numerous current versions are a part of this mission, like Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge and MS Outlook 2016. They all are providing support for various Indian languages including Hindi. The Domain names such as सिनेमा.भारत and internationalised email addresses such as प्रयोक्ता@डोमेन.भारत are currently available for all the Indians.
Although the Devanagri-based email addresses are available in India, still many Indians are unable to use the Internet and also the online services are very costly for them. If the government wants to make this plan work out successfully, the internet should be used easily and should be offered at affordable cost to all the Indians, then only this plan will step ahead.
It’s a great plan that the government of India has taken for all the Indians. By the means of Desi Email ID’s anyone can access the internet in their local language.
