Kiefer Sutherland’s 24 was one of the best action series, but his latest political thriller drama Designated Survivor Season 1 is going to be the next big thing on TV. The show which is part of ABC network, has got the best reviews in first few episodes. The series is hitting all the cylinders with its pace and story. Designated Survivor season 1 has been kept week offs in between, which has made the series extremely interesting. Looking at the successful performance, ABC studios ordered a full season of 22 episodes for Designated Survivor.
The plot behind Designated Survivor
Designated Survivor Season 1 features about a man named Thomas Kirkman who works for the President of United States in his Cabinet. He is kept at an unknown place, when an attack happens on parliament, all the members of Congress and Republicans are killed, making him the Designated Survivor. Kirkman is immediately sworn in as President, unaware that the attack is just the beginning of what is to come. In the last episode ‘Traitor’ we come to know about the man behind the attacks. Apart from that, FBI deputy director’s son is kidnapped and he gets a visit from an unknown woman who threatens to kill his son if he doesn’t stops his investigations.
Series with twist and turns
The series is already bringing lot of twist and still it is not clear whether Congressman, Peter MacLeish who is the lone survivor is behind the attacks or not. This question over his character still looms in air, as president Kirkman faces threats that he doesn’t even know are coming. Fans also came through the truth behind his family when it is revealed that Leo is not Kirkman’s real son.
Tone set for Designated Survivor season 1
Designated Survivor season 1 has so far acted on the right chords of political, thriller and drama. Yes, it cannot be considered as family oriented drama. Meanwhile, the role of first lady which is being played by Natascha McElhone seems to be pretty satisfying as she is also having a hard time facing her demons. Along with solving political motives both Tom and Alex Kirkman must solve their family issues to keep the things steady.
Decent Star Cast
The other supporting characters like Kal Penn, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci and Maggie Q are doing fantastic jobs with their specified characters. It’s nice seeing Kiefer Sutherland back on TV with Designated Survivor Season 1(he is also the executive producer) after he played the much talked role of Jack Bauer in 24 series. I have also been his great fan and Designated Survivor season 1 has given a chance to see where he is up to. Looking at the performances and TV ratings it is for sure that Designated Survivor is going to make big in next few years.
