The renowned wrestling star has once again proved that he is a king in real life, as jurors on March 21, 2016 awarded a total of $140 million – $25 million more than he was granted last week , over a sex tape which was published in Gawker.
Hulk Hogan, in the court, argued that the two-minute video which was released featured him along with his friend’s wife, and it invaded his privacy and humiliated him in the worse manner.
The 62-year-old man burst into tears after the 6-member jury announced their decision to award more than the $100 million requested by Hogan. You should understand that Florida laws allow up to 3 times the compensatory amount in similar cases, and it means that more than $345 could be given as punitive damages.
Instead of the whopping sum, jurors decided to give an added $25 in punitive damages to the $115 million original award for intervening the privacy of Hulk Hogan. Hulk’s lawyer in the court stated that the video which was leaked was watched by more than seven million people.
According to reports, Gawkers will file an appeal in this case as they will be bankrupted is this amount is paid. Nick Denton, owner of Gawker have earlier told his employees that he has way, way less money than people think.
Hogan remains as the most popular wrestlers in the nation, even though he has retired from the profession.
