E.P Jayaranjan has resigned from his post as Industrial Minister who was in the Pinaryai Vijayan Cabinet. Jayaranjan has been facing heat over the last fortnight over charges of nepotism in key appointments in State public sector enterprises, offered to step down at the CPI state secretariat meeting which ends here while ago.
He announced his decision at a news conference in which party’s state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the resignation is meant to lift the image of the party and the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Chief Minister of the State Pinarayi Vijayan would allocate his portfolios that Jayaranjan held in the four-month-old cabinet. It will vital to see who will be taking the charge of his portfolios.
Jayranjan’s action is predictable, says Yechury
On the other hand, Jayaraman’s resignation is the result of the strong stand taken by CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. He had told that the state leadership that an action that sets right the hurt caused by the Jayaraman’s action is predictable. While coming out of the meeting, Jayaranjan told reporters,” Now you people are happy. Isn’t it?
Any action against Jayaranjan taken by central leadership: Kodiyeri
When questioned to Kodiyeri if CPI –M would take any action Jyaranjan, he answered that Jayaranjan was a member of party central Committee and the action would declare by the central leadership. CPI (M) is against any illegal appointments but the party does not think that being a relative of a leader is a disqualification to get a job in government service, said Kodiyeri.
Aiming at both Congress-led UDF and BJP government at the center, Kodiyeri said that their ministers were involved in the entire conspiracy, but none of them resigned.
