As a repercussion, many US citizens decided to move to Canada or New Zealand. And now, a French designer has refused to dress the new First Lady of America Melania Trump.
French Designer Sophie Theallet refuses to work for the Trumps
French designer named Sophie Theallet has refused to dress Melania Trump because she holds anti-Trump views. The designer wrote an open letter, in which she has asked fellow designers to refrain from working for the Trumps.
In her letter she wrote, “As an independent fashion brand, we consider our voice an expression of our artistic and philosophical ideas. The Sophie Theallet brand stands against all discrimination and prejudice…I am well aware it is not wise to get involved in politics. That said, as a family-owned company, our bottom-line is not just about money… Dressing the First Lady Michelle Obama for past 8 years has been a highlight and an honor. I will not participate in dressing or associate in any way with the next First Lady. I encourage my fellow designers to do the same.”
Sophie Theallet has been working in the United States for past fifteen years and The former First Lady Michelle Obama has been seen dressed in her outfits on many important occasions. In her open letter, Sophie praised Michelle Obama while she lashed out at Trump saying, “The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her (Melania Trump) husband’s campaign are incompatible with the shared values that we live by.”
