Nabha Jailbreak: Khalistan Militant Harminder Singh Mintoo Nabbed from Delhi

After few hours of jailbreak in Nabha, Punjab, Police has nabbed Khalistan Liberation Force Militant Harminder Singh Mintoo from Delhi on late Sunday. Mintoo and five others escaped from the jail on Sunday when a group of assailants came there in Police uniform and asked sentries to open the door claiming that they were bringing them back after a court hearing. When sentries opened the gate, one of those assailants snatched a rifle of a policeman and split into two groups, one went to the jail corridor, where the six prisoners were waiting.

According to the Punjab Police chief, Suresh Arora, Kashmira Singh who ran away along with those escapees was terrorist. But, Hours later, the alleged mastermind of the daring daylight jailbreak, Parminder Singh, was arrested on Sunday from kairana in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district when the gateway vehicle—a Toyota Fortuner was stopped at a police post.

Police nabbed him out and started the search in which they recovered a self-loading rifle, three rifles and several rounds of ammunition from the SUV, said UP’s Additional Director General of Police (Law and order) Daljit Singh Chaudhary.

Government formed SIT and also ordered a separate inquiry committee

On the other hand, after the six escaped, apparently without facing much resistance from the security personnel, Punjab Government had kicked out two senior jail officials, Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent, suspended ADGP Jails M K Tiwari, and formed SIT to investigate the matter.  The government had also ordered a separate inquiry committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Jagpal Singh Sandhu to look into the Security lapses.

Over 35 rounds were fired but no casualty happened

Arora had said, “The unidentified assailants came in police fatigues carrying small firearms.” He said they told sentries that they had brought a prisoner along, tricking them into opening the gates. Arora Said, over 35 rounds were fired but there was no casualty among the jail personnel, who were apparently taken off-guard and did not offer any strong conflict.

DGP said, “The firing was also done from inside the jail. We will see why the firing was not effective, adding there is a conspiracy somewhere”. He further said, “Had there been effective firing, it would have been the other way round”.

It is worth mentioning there that Mintoo was arrested on November 2014 by Punjab Police after he was deported from Thailand even he was also a wanted  in 10 different terror cases. At the same time, an innocent woman was killed when the police opened fire at the assailants when they did not stop at a police post, 20Km away from the jail.

Parminder told police that all the escapees were split into groups and moved to Haryana

During interrogation, Parminder had told to interrogators that all the escapees had split themselves into the groups and headed to Karnal and Panipat in Haryana” said Chaudhary.

He said Parminder was an accused in the killing of a sub-inspector of Punjab Police and had planned the escape with another gangster Prema, who had supported to run away from jail some time ago. The others gangster who escaped were Vicky Gaundar, Amandeep Dhotian, Gurpreet Sekhon, Nita Deol and Kashmira Singh (arrested).

Mitoo was arrested for attacking on Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in 2008, recovery of explosives Air Force Station 2010, including 10 other cases.
