One of the tech giant was able to point out some mistakes in products of another tech giant. All are aware about the valuable products of Norton and Symantec but little do they know about the demerits of these products. Tavis Ormandy, Google security researcher, was able to find out important defects in more than 20 products produced by Norton and Symantec. The surprising things about the products are they are running successfully all over world and used by companies and individual buyers.
The techie from Google found out there were many security flaws in these products and is a matter of concern. They can be fatal for by corrupting the memory in windows, ultimately finding it’s way through the kernel. As no user interaction is required, the default configuration is badly hit.
They can serve as the best and easiest possible gateways for the hackers. This can happen even if the user does not opens any corrupt file and finally allowing the hacker to gain complete control of system. Moreover, Symantec which uses filter drivers may not be able to provide total and carefree protection to it’s users.
Symantec and Norton use the same core engine to produce the antivirus products, so the chances of vulnerabilities increase. To prevent the attack on the customers Symantec has requested most of their users to update the antivirus accordingly and be on the safe side. Some of the repairs will be done by the administrator and hence a lot of work is still pending to save the norms.
