Racist remark on Michelle Obama: The mayor of Clay town of West Virginia in the US resigned after an outcry broke when she posted a racist remark on Facebook calling Michelle Obama an “ape in heels”. Pamela Ramsey Taylor, director of Clay County Development Corporation had written on Facebook, “It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House…I’m tired of seeing an Ape in heels.”

The mayor of Clay town commented on the post, “Just made my day Pam.”
The comments were later deleted, however, the screenshots of the remarks by both the officials took rounds all over the internet.
Pamela lost her job owing to the racist post, while Beverly Whaling had to resign since a petition was signed by over 1,70,000 people asking the mayor to step down from her post immediately.
Pamela Ramsey Taylor later posted an apology on Facebook stating that she did not intend to hurt anybody and was not being racist at all.
She wrote, “My comment was not intended to be racist at all,” she wrote. “I was referring to my day being made for a change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not in any way racist! Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand!”
Joe Murphy, the vice-chairman of the Clay Democratic Executive Committee said that Michelle Obama has been one of the, “most graceful and articulate first ladies in American history.” He further said that he strongly opposed any kind of hate comments.
