Leading a protest against demonetization in the Parliament, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday said opposition wanted a joint parliamentary committee into the scam related to leakage of demonetization decision in a few people of BJP prior the government announcement.
Maintaining on opposition unity moments after 12 parties joined hands to lead a protest against the move in Parliament House, the Gandhi said all leaders also wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appear in Parliament, listen to them and tell the nation why he took such decision which has become a cause of harassment for the people.
Demonetisation move was unplanned financial trial by the government: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul described demonetization of high-denomination currency as the biggest unprepared financial trial in the world saying the decision had hit the Indian economy.
He also alleged that the Finance Minister or the Chief Economic Adviser did not know of the move, adding that the BJP members in Bengal and other states knew of that which explained why bank deposits overflowed on the eve of the announcement on November 8.
He asked government saying how BJP organizations could have known of the move when Finance Minister was unaware of the move. He further asked government Why PM Modi to come in the parliament and why they don’t want to answer the nation. He said over 200MPs are saying they want to tell the nation why he took the decision, but PM himself “a representative of the country” is hiding from us just because of our questions.
Gandhi said all the opposition parties have become one against the government move of dmonetisation. He told, first of all, we want the PM, who represents the country, to come to parliament and should take part in the debate. He will have to listen to us, will have to sit there, Second, we see a scam behind this move.
Opposition wants from government to form JPC to look into the issue
The PM and the BJP president told their own people of the scam. We need a JPC to investigate that. You see cent per cent united opposition standing here. Over 200 MPs are here. We are united. The PM should tell us why he has taken this decision.” Said Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi further added that all opposition parties are corruption and against black money, but the question is why one decision of the government should harass one billion people.“It’s a question of complete centralisation of power. The country cannot be run in this way. You have hit the economy. The economy was working well, though not as well as in the UPA government. Bengal and Kerala fishermen industry has been reached at the edge of ruin, small traders have been influenced. Have you seen anyone in suit-boot in the queues?” Gandhi said accusing the PM of unilaterally taking the demonetization decision.
Government is ready to debate on demonetization in Parliament
Asked who is leading the protest from the opposition side considering BSP chief Mayawati and SP chief Muyalam Singh were not personally part of the opposition protest on Wednesday though their MPs came, Rahul said we are the voice of poor people in the country who representing them and raising their voice in the parliament as MPs. HE said it was shameful that 70 people had died following the move and parliament had not made any obituary reference to them.
