Scarlett Johannson reflects about the time she unexpectedly reconnected with Bill Murray.
On Tuesday’s episode of the Goop podcast, the Black Widow actress, 38, opened out to host Gwyneth Paltrow about unexpectedly running into her old costar years after they filmed Lost in Translation.
I hadn’t seen him in at least a decade. “It had been a long time,” Johansson said. “And then I walked into a pub with my long-lost ex-boyfriend… and there was only one person at the pub, and it was Bill Murray.”
“It had been over a decade, more than a decade. ‘All right, I guess I’ll have to go check what’s up,’ I said.”
Scarlett Johansson remembered their working on the film Lost in Translation “I believe it was difficult for him as well since he had a lot going on with his family and marriage. And it was almost as if he had no idea what we were up to in Tokyo during those weeks.”

In Sofia Coppola’s second feature film, Lost in Translation, Scarlett Johansson and Murray played opposite one other. The 2003 romantic comedy-drama follows out-of-work actor Bob (Murray) as he travels to Tokyo to promote a whisky brand during his mid-life crisis. There, he meets Charlotte (Johansson), a recent college graduate who is likewise unsure about her future.
