Whatsapp has encryption of its widely used internet messaging apps. Whatsapp is much private than facebook as this messaging apps doest don’t allow others to view the message. The message can be seen only among the sender and receiver or group chat. Whatsapp founder said only the authorised users can see or read the message. Whatsapp is now implemented end to end encryption.
Whatsapp end to end encryption means as Jan Koum and Brian Acton wrote in a blog “no one can see inside that message accepts sender and receiver” not cyber criminals, not hackers, not oppressive regimes and not even us.
Whatsapp took this step after the fierce debate over increasing use of encryption. As it also affects law enforcement investigation. Till February, whatsapps have 1 billion users said WhatsApp founder.
A federal magistrate judge ordered Apple company to create a special version of its mobile operating system. This will help FBI to get on the phone used by one of the sans Bernardino mass shooters. But Apple Company objected setting off a widespread debate. The ordered was cancel after FBI found a way to get into the phone of san Bernardino.
Encryption and decryption are found in the WhatsApp’s device user, as WhatsApp’s holds the key to the message sent over the service. which means law enforcement will not able to access into WhatsApp or another service provider to obtain the key. Law enforcement can get access to WhatsApp messages if a suspect divulged his or her phone’s passcode or the passcode could be obtained another way.
It is possible if a software vulnerability in the app could allow law enforcement access. Experts believe that may have been how the FBI unlocked the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone.
WhatsApp’s encryption uses an open-source protocol called Signal, which is used in encrypted messaging app of the same name, according to a technical white paper published. Signal was developed by Open Whisper Systems.
