21 June 2016: The US have launched free online courses offers for the refugees of worldwide on Monday to mark the event during World Refugee Day. This course offers more than 1,000 online university courses for free in order to provide free education and skill training to the refugees under the US – based program.
According to the report, the course fee typically could range from $29 US to $99 US. This program has been launched, jointly with the US-based department of the state that will allow nonprofit organisations to apply for financial help for the refugees to take up free courses online, as said by the Coursera, a for-profit provider of online courses.
As per the record according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees globally more than 65.3 million people have been displaced in the year 2015.
According to the source, this program launched for the Refugees worldwide that will initiate to provide access courses at several schools and Harvard University in the United States and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in topics from computer coding to neuroscience, said Coursera, a for-profit provider of online courses.
Rebecca Taber, Coursera head of government partnership, said in a statement that “Coursera for refugees is designed to provide as many of them as possible with greater access to education in career-relevant skills, as they navigate new homes and difficult times in their life”.
The State Department will promote the courses through the embassies and consulates.
Berlin-based Kiron University also provides free online courses and degrees for free to the refugees, according to the source and its website.
