Akhilesh meets Mulayam: Despite political slugfest amid Samajwadi party’s chief Mulayam Singh and his son Akhilesh for the symbol ‘Cycle’, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday met father Mulayam Singh at his residence in Lucknow.
Akhilesh meets Mulayam with his brother Shivpal Yadav and other senior leaders
Akhilesh met Mulayam after returning from Delhi where Mulayam had gone to stake his claim on the symbol. He also met suspended party leader Amar Singh on Monday accompanied by his brother Shivpal Yadav, Rajya Sabha Mp Amar Singh and actress-turned-politician Jaya Prada, Mulayam Singh met Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi in the national capital.
The meeting lasted around 30 minutes where Mulayam Singh, as a party founder, is said to have asserted his right over the election symbol. At the same time, Samajwadi Party’s general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal is visiting Delhi today to submit Akhilesh Yadav’s claim as the new national president of the party.
Election Commission may freeze the party symbol
Some leaders from CM Akhilesh camp on Tuesday met Chief Election Commission Nasim Zaidi to stake claim on the Samajwadi Party’s election symbol ‘Cycle’. Ram Gopal Yadav is expected to meet the videos of the party’s convention of Sunday to show that the decision to announce Akhilesh Yadav as its new National Working President was approved by most party workers.
It is worth mentioning here that the Election commission will be able to sort out the matter in time for the UP assembly polls. But in the interim, the panel may freeze the party symbol providing the ad-hoc recognition to two groups under similar names to the parent party.
