The recently completed Kamuthi Solar Power Plant in Tamil Nadu has been titled as the largest solar power plant in the world. While Delhi, Mumbai and many other cities have a chronic pollution problem, this news brings the much-needed respite for the country as the Kamuthi power plant is sought to dispense power to over 1.5 lakh homes in the state.

“We have a deep commitment to nation-building. We plan to produce 11,000 MW of solar energy in the next five years, putting India on the global map of renewable energy”, said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group.
The power plant spreads over a vicinity of 2500 acres, and it has the capacity to generate over 648-megawatt green power. Approximately Rs 4500 crores(679 million dollars) have been spent on building the plant. It is deemed to become the third largest solar market in the world by next year.
Earlier, the US’s Topaz Solar Farm located in California, US was the biggest solar power plant in the world that has the capacity to generate 550-megawatt power.
The Kamuthi Solar Power Plant includes 25 lakh individual solar panels. It works through a self-sustaining system, a robotic system that is charged by the power plant itself, cleans it daily. It has been built by Adani power in a short span of eight months.
