Tweet by Donald Trump causes confusion: On Thursday, the US President-elect Donald trump said that he wishes to expand the American Weaponry, and called for a veto on a pending resolution of the United Nations criticising Israel’s settlement policy.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin too had asked the country to strengthen its military nuclear potential.
This tweet by Donald Trump had world leaders guessing about the unpredictable President-elect’s plans
In a tweet Trump wrote, “The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.”
The tweet alarmed the citizens as well as the experts of the nation and were left baffled too.
The reason for mentioning the need to strengthen the nuclear capability is not clear and also Donald Trump didn;t made it clear as to what further steps does he intend to take up in future.
It is worth mentioning that the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin also said in a statement that Russia needed to “strengthen the military potential of strategic nuclear forces.”
Later Donald Trump’s tweet was explained by his spokesperson Jason Miller, he said the US President-elect was “referring to the threat of nuclear proliferation and the critical need to prevent it – particularly to and among terrorist organisations and unstable and rogue regimes…emphasized the need to improve and modernize our deterrent capability as a vital way to pursue peace through strength.”
Condemning the callous demeanour of the President-elect, the executive director of the Arms Control Association, Daryl Kimball said, “It is completely irresponsible for the president-elect or the president to make changes to U.S. nuclear policy in 140 characters and without understanding the implications of statements like ‘expand the capacity.”
She added that the tweet by Donald Trump must have rendered the leaders around the world guessing about his intentions and what he actually meant which must have had caused great perplexity.
