On Monday night one of the suspects of the fake coin racket has been arrested by the Delhi police. The fake coin racket was led by two brothers, one of which has been caught; Sweekar Luthra, 39, is accused of having minted the fake coins amounting to several crores. His elder brother is on the run who is also his accomplice.
Fake coin racket busted by Delhi Police on Monday
They had set up the units in Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana. The extensive fake coin manufacturing business has already injected fake coins worth Rs 10 to 12 lakh into the economy.
Sweekar used a phone number that he had acquired from Thailand to evade the police arrest. Fake coins of Rs 5 and Rs 10 worth Rs 17390 have been recovered from him.
“In October, a racket involving counterfeit coins was busted and two racketeers, Gulshan and Sachin, were arrested. The kingpins were identified as brothers Sweekar and Upkaar…He (Sweekar) was in a Celerio car when he was caught. He is wanted in several cases related to minting of counterfeit coins and also for allegedly murdering his partner in Bihar”, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sanjeev Yadav said in a statement.
The two accused have been constantly changing their locations and many times they also spent the night in the car about which not even their close friends were informed. The racket has been continuing for the past two decades.
Sweekar revealed that the racket was commenced by them in 1997, at that time they had started manufacturing Rs 5 coins. The two brothers have been arrested many times, however, they resumed their fake coin manufacturing business each time.
