Election Commission issues guidelines: The Election Commission issued general guidelines on Wednesday to District Election officers to make sure the prohibition during the period of 48hours initiating from 5 pm on February 2 till 5 pm on February 4 for the peaceful conclusion of elections in Punjab to held on February 4.
Chief Electoral officer of Punjab V K Singh Said: “the guidelines have been issued in accordance with the provisions enacted in the section 126 Representation of peoples’ Act 1951”. As per the guidelines, the ongoing campaigning in all the 117assembly constituencies would come to an end just before 48 hours to polling date.

All the political leaders, functionaries or party workers who are not registered voters of the area will have to leave the constituency during this period said, Singh. EC has issued necessary guidelines to the police and civil administration throughout the state to assure that outsiders who are not required must leave the area immediately.
EC has been briefed all the political parties on this to follow its directive, said Singh. It has also directed the election and police administration to keep a regular and close check on the community centres, guest houses and lodges to take out of the outsiders staying without any cause and could disrupt the elections process. He further said it also directed them to check identity cards of outsiders staying in the constituencies.
Only physical challenged, vehicles carrying an ailing and government officers leaving office are allowed to carry their vehicles
Singh announced that carrying out of the two wheelers would also be restricted 24 hours prior the polling date. The rules will not be applicable to the two-wheelers carrying an ailing, physically challenged or the officers/ employees who are discharging government duties added Singh. The complete prohibition on broadcasting or propagating election-related material on TV, radio or newspapers has been imposed by the Election Commission.
