2016 Navratri Day 2: Navratri is a very pious occasion that is generally celebrated for nine days every year. But this year, the festival will be celebrated for ten days. Each day of Navratri is dedicated to one form of the Goddess Shakti or Durga. People worship each of her form for one day each according to the Hindu legends. The second day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini.
She did hard penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. It is believed that she spent 1000 years by eating only flowers and fruits and another 100 years of eating only leafy vegetables. For those years, she even slept on the floor.
Worship Maa Brahmacharini on the Second Navratri
Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on the second day of Navratri festival by her devotees. Her name means a female who pursues the sacred religious knowledge. According to the beliefs, the goddess governs Lord Mangal, the provider of all fortunes. It is said that people who worship Maa Brahmacharini are blessed with great fortune.
The goddess is the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati who was born at the home of Daksha Prajapati. She wears white clothes and holds a water utensil called the Kamandal in her left hand and a Japa mala or rosary in her other hand.
The goddess can provide unending benefits to her devotees. Her devotees are blessed with dispassion, ethical conduct, penancing, renouncing, and restraint in themselves. They don’t deviate from their paths even after so many challenges and hardships. The devotees get success and victory in anything and everything they do.
