Police have detained several BJP workers on Thursday after a protest against the celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti in Karnataka and also demanded an NIA probe into the killing of 17 workers and activists from various right-wing organizations in the last year.
BJP demands to Centre for NIA investigation
“Around 17 party workers and activists from various Hindu organization have been killed in the last year. Some were killed during the Tipu Sultan Jayanti held at Madikeri last year. It is repeating this year as well. We have requested the Home Minister to initiate NIA probe into the Killings,” Said State BJP president BS Yeddyurappa. BJP is observing Thursday as “black day”.
BJP members believe that a few “anti-nationalist” have allegedly killed its activists. Two people died in the violent protests that marred the inaugural birth anniversary celebration of the former Mysore ruler last year.
Government deployed forces to all the districts including senior officers of the Police department
Karnataka government deployed 119 KSRP platoons, 9000 Home Guards and 7 companies of Central forces across the state to prevent any mishap. Om Prakash Director-General and Inspector-General of Police told The Hindu that we have been dispatched senior officers of the rank of Additional Director-General of Police and Inspector-General of Police to all districts to supervise the security measures. On the other hand, G Parameshwara appealed for cooperation from the BJP, but it appears to have fallen on deaf years.
