A 20 years-old young woman allegedly committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh due to lack of valid currency for her treatment. Several deaths have been reported after PM Modi announced that the denomination of Rs500 and Rs 100o is no longer legal tender and this is one of them too.
Her brother found her hanging from a ceiling fan
Police told PTI that young woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan of her house, identified as Shabana from Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. Police also said that she did not have enough valid currency for her treatment this is why she ended her life.
“Shabana committed suicide yesterday allegedly by hanging from the ceiling as there was no valid currency available at her home and Mobin, her brother, was standing in a queue to get the currency exchanged”, SHO Anuradha Singhal said as quoted by PTI.
Deceased’s family member accused PM Modi of her death
The incident came to light when her brother returned home without new currency and found her hanging in the room. The deceased’s family accused PM Modis’ action over demonetization for her death. They also alleged Modi saying Shabana was worried over her treatment as she was not keeping well for some time and did not have valid cash.
Several deaths have been reported over demonetization since the Prime Minster Narendra Modi announced a ban on the high-value notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
