Argentina has now won three World Cups, and this is Messi’s first. In 1978 and 1986, they previously won the FIFA competition. Argentina had previously finished second three times, in 1930, 1990, and 2014.
The title was previously won by France in 2018 when they defeated Croatia 4-2 in the championship game.

The 2022 World Cup was the first to not take place in May, June, or July due to the extreme summer heat in the host nation.
