Does the mankind need another messaging app? According to Google, yes! This is why they have launched Google Allo. Well, in a way it is more of a middleman in the chats and will not think twice before popping up in a chat with suggestions.
Allo is “smart”, at least that is what Google is saying. This is due to the fact that when someone asks you something like, “Want to get some dinner?” it will show you the nearest restaurants and there you can check the opening hours, menu and directions too.
However, currently you cannot make orders with the help of Allo but Google is seriously considering third-party integrations such as OpenTable for food and Airbnb for reservations. Messages does not involve Siri in such an active way but it already has a third-party integration for bookings and reservations so that can do the same as you chat.
The idea behind this innovation is to keep the conversation flowing. You get everything while you chat without having to leave Allo.
Messages is available only on iPhone and iPads whereas Google Allo launched on Android phones and iPhones but not on tablets.
Google launched Google Allo. Here is all about it.
- ‘Smart’ replies
Allo can be a great help when you are chatting with a friend. For example: – if somebody asks you, “How are you?” Allo will suggest “Good tnx”. You can tap that and hence can save a few clicks. It also remembers the shorter versions of the words as you use them like ‘u’ instead of ‘you’. Apple also offers something very strikingly similar to that but only on its smart watch. It can also have a look at the pictures and suggest replies like “beautiful smile” or “the skyline looks great”. It won’t work all the time as it is a software and its suggestions won’t always make sense.
- Personal Assistant
As mentioned earlier, Allo can be very resourceful if you’re planning. It can help you with menus, movie times and even the weather. Apart from this, it can tell you latest news, score updates, translate phrases or do calculations. When asked for directions, it will open Google Maps.
- Smart but only to a limited extent
When Google launched Google Allo, they said it is a smart app as it boasts an Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, the apps intelligence a little limited. Let us say you have a flight today and a friend asks you when is your flight? Allo will not suggest anything there even if you have it on your calendar. Similarly, it will not tell you about traffic on your regular commute.
- Express more
Gone are the days of boring, plain and dull messages. Allo comes with a slider that increases or decreases the size of the text as well as the emojis. Apple’s Messages is slightly different here. It offers to make the text ‘loud’ so that the chat bubble enlarges for a moment or ‘gentle’ in which the text appears smaller. It all depends on how you want it.
This was all I had for Allo right now. Stay connected as we explore it more and list out its pros and cons.
