Since the launch of OP 3T, many OnePlus 3 users were left wondering whether they should upgrade to OnePlus 3T or not. We saw many people posting about their plans to sell their OP3 and purchase the OP3T. If you are one of them, then this post is for you.
OnePlus recently announced their latest flagship phone – OnePlus 3T. It is an upgraded version of the OnePlus 3 which was rolled out earlier this year in June. In just a matter of 5 months, OnePlus gave its customers its next flagship device. This was pretty much in contrast with their previous claims that they will be making one flagship device every year. Hypocrite much, eh?

Upgrade to OnePlus 3T?
In order to help you decide, we will be listing out all the reason that we can possibly think of. These arguments will be both for and against the upgrade. We will be pointing them out for you under separate headings. Take a good look at them and then make your choice.
Why you should upgrade to the OnePlus 3T
OnePlus 3T offers many key upgrades which make it a better option than the outgoing model, OnePlus 3. Let us begin!
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 821
One of the biggest reasons to upgrade to OnePlus 3T is the processor. The phone is powered by the latest quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 flagship processor. It has many advantages over the
Snapdragon 820 used in the OP3. To name some, it comes with a higher clock speed, supports VR and of course performs better.
- Better selfies
The front camera on the OP3T is an impressive 16MP one. It has been upgraded from 8MP on the outgoing model which means that the selfies that you click with OP3T will be a whole lot better than those clicked with the OnePlus 3.
- More storage space
One of the complaints with the OnePlus 3 was that the company launched only one variant with 64GB of storage space. This acted as a deal breaker for many because there was no expansion slot and giving only one option means people did not have any other option. That is however not the case with the OnePlus 3T. If you want to upgrade to the OnePlus 3T, you have the option of choosing between 64GB and 128GB variants.

- New colour
OnePlus 3T has been launched with a new colour –Gunmetal. I personally think that the Gunmetal colour variant is a lot better than the Graphite one. The second colour option is Soft Gold which will be available a few days after the sales begin.
- Bragging rights
You can call this a lame one but it is definitely one of the perks of an upgrade to OnePlus 3T. As the name says, you get to brag about your phone being the latest one with all the top-notch specifications. Lol.

Why you should not upgrade to OnePlus 3T
- Negligible difference in performance
Though the SoC has been upgraded, you will not notice any huge difference in the performance. The difference will only be visible in the form of numbers. Confused? I am referring to the Benchmarking indexes like GFXBench, AnTuTu etc. Otherwise in day to day use, you will not notice any significant difference.
- Rear camera still the same
Many people like me are not much into selfies. For them, the rear camera is the one that matters more. That has been left unchanged. Not even little tweaks. It has been carried forward from the OnePlus 3. That means that the camera does not interest me at all and I would stick to the OnePlus 3.
- 64GB is enough for most
Who needs 128GB variant when 64GB will suffice? I have personally seen people with OnePlus 3 having 35-40GB of free space. They could not even utilise that. If you hand them a OnePlus 3T 128GB variant, in that case, the free space will rise to approximately 100GB which I think is absurd.
- OP3 & OP3T, both will get the OS update together later
Both the devices will be upgraded to the latest OS i.e. Android 7.0 Nougat by the end of the year. The OP3T will be sold with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. OP3 and 3T will get the upgrade to the latest OS via an OTA update by the end of the year.
- Design, display etc all still the same
Despite the bigger cell, the design of the phone has not been altered at all. It is exactly the same. The size of the screen, the dimensions of the phone all are the same. The display still measures 5.5-inches and the panel is full HD AMOLED with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top. RAM is also the same – 6GB LPDDR4.

The Verdict
It all boils down to what are you looking for? What do you want? I believe that you should upgrade to OnePlus 3T if:-
- you have bought or are planning to buy the Google Daydream VR headsets
- if you have filled up the 64GB storage and want more space
- you are a hardcore user and the 3000mAh cell doesn’t do the job for you
- you crave the bigger numbers
If none of this sounds like you then there is no point of upgrading to the OnePlus 3T. Your OnePlus 3 might not be the fastest phone, some might even call it a bit dated since 3T has been launched but it will still get the job done. Despite the upgraded variant being launched, it is still one of the best phones around.
That is it for now. Hope we could be of help to decide whether to upgrade to OnePlus 3T or not. Stay tuned for more updates.
