In his campaign, the Republican Donald Trump had announced many radical changes that he sought to introduce in the USA in case he came in power. And now that the US President-elect Donald Trump is soon going to implement all those changes, many of the important sectors of the economy and the world will be rendered affected. Under the H1-B visa programme, the employers in the US were allowed to recruit the foreign workers for a specified temporary time period.
H1-B visa programme to be relinquished
At the time of the election campaign he had said, “I will end forever the use of H1-B as a cheap labour programme.” Owing to this decision by Trump, the leading Information Technology companies will soon commence the hiring process in the US College campuses. Among the users of the H1-B visa programme are the leading IT companies – Wipro, Infosys and the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Mass recruitment of the software engineers and for other profiles was done through the H1-B visa programme, as of now, the companies fear the relinquishment of this programme, therefore these will be gearing up the hiring process in the local college campuses.
“The world over, there’s a lot of protectionisms coming in and push back on immigration. Unfortunately, people are confusing immigration with a high-skilled temporary workforce, because we are really a temporary workforce.”
-Chief operating Officer at Infosys, Pravin Rao
The foreign employees will also have to face a setback as the companies will now prefer the local candidates for the jobs in the IT sector. This is also likely to shoot up the cost in the companies in the US since apparently, there would be a shortage of skilled manpower after doing away with the H1-B visa programme.
