Marvel has always been cool when it comes to movies especially the superheroes one. Now that, Wolverine solo movie is coming to end (Hugh Jackman’s last movie as Wolverine) the franchise is looking forward to bring new movies in coming years. The inception of X-Men (First Class) started the things off and new actors on board are doing pretty nice work. Fox who is the studio behind the X-Men films and over the years franchise has released many movies. The universe is expanding and so are the movies. The solo and other X-men movies will go on right now while other upcoming X-men movies are also into developments.
Here’s the complete list of upcoming X-Men movies and mutant films, with their planned release dates:
Logan
Hugh Jackman is returning with the film ‘Logan’ for the last time in the upcoming X-Men movies. The movie is based on the Marvel Comics by the same name. The solo Wolverine will be the final outing for Hugh Jackman as the iconic character. ‘Logan’ will also see Patrick Stewart in star cast as Professor X. The movie has been directed by The Wolverine director James Mangold. It’s kind of final goodbye to Logan. The plot for movie is, “Years after the epilogue of X-Men: Days of Future Past, some of the last mutants, an aging Logan—whose healing factor is starting to fail—and Charles Xavier, protect a young girl named Laura who is very similar to Logan, and is being hunted by sinister forces.” This may be the last we see of Hugh Jackman, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the end of Wolverine. Logan will hit the screens on March 23, 2017.
Deadpool 2
Deadpool is the part of other upcoming X-Men movies. The sequel for Deadpool 2 is confirmed and Ryan Reynolds will be returning back after the original Deadpool movie became a blockbuster. Apart from that, the previous director Tim Miller left the second movie due to some creative differences with the actor. The replacement for the new director has already been done as David Leitch (John Wick fame) will look after the directional responsibilities. It’s rumored that fan-favorite characters Cable and Domino will be part of the story, though no casting has occurred, and there’s no release date… yet.
New Mutants
New mutants are the recent project added to the upcoming X-Men movies. Currently, New Mutants is in developments and director Josh Boone is looking after this mysterious project. In fact, he is keeping his social media updated with his project news. Fox pictures are looking after the whole project. Moreover, the villain Demon Bear may be the part of the movie. So far, no cast or characters have been announced and there are no release dates as well.
Gambit
Gambit is one such movie which has been plagued by delays. The project ran into issues as the director Doug Liman first left the movie in favor of DC’s Justice League Dark. Moreover, it was a trump card for Channing Tatum to play a superhero. At one point, the news was coming that the project may happen without Channing Tatum. Gambit is part of upcoming X-Men movies but it’s still unclear which makes the project, “may happen, but don’t know when”. There are no confirmed release dates for Gambit.
Untitled upcoming X-Men movies by Marvel/Fox
Fox and Marvels are the partners in bringing the X-Men movies on the screen. Fox also holds all the properties of X-men as well as the Fantastic Four movies. Right now they have not revealed any official plans for the upcoming X-Men movies. After the X-Men: Apocalypse, there were some stories that the traditional X-Men may assemble again. But Fox recently announced a number of release dates with no titles attached. They are March 2, 2018; June 29, 2018; November 2, 2018, and February 14, 2019. Additionally, two dates may be claimed by Deadpool 2 and New mutants and the two others can be put on regular X-Men movie.
I am interested in seeing when Channing Tatum becomes a superhero as Gambit and if that happens, two dates are still in the kitty of Fox. So boy, bring it on.
