Yes, you heard that right! Hrithik and Yami’s Bollywood film, Kaabil is going to have an official Hollywood remake. As per the speculations, 20th Century Fox has approached the makers of the film for obtaining the remake rights. The film has been produced by Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan.
The story of the film revolves around a blind man who sets to take the revenge of his wife’s rape from the molesters.
The film director Sanjay Gupta confirmed the latest developments saying Kaabil to have a Hollywood remake. He said, “It’s true that Fox, through Tomas Jegeus has approached Hrithik. Even though the developments are too premature to talk about at this moment, it is an honour for the team. What is also exciting is that Kaabil has been declared the best film of (the first half of) 2017 via an online poll. So, it’s a double win for us.”
Though the film received mixed reviews from the critics and earned a decent amount at the box office, it was highly liked by the audiences.
An insider said, “Before he jetted off to New York, Hrithik was pleasantly surprised to get a call from Tomas, who wanted to buy the remake rights of Kaabil. They feel the film is a pure entertainer and has all the ingredients for a great Hollywood film. Hrithik will discuss the matter with his father when he is back.”
Rakesh Roshan seemed very excited about the remake opportunity. He said, “The screenplay was hard-hitting, and the drama, gripping. It would make for a wonderful Hollywood adaptation, given that it has all the necessary emotions. It struck gold at the box-office because it was about a visually-impaired lover seeking revenge.”
It has always been like this that the Indian filmmakers have faced flak for remaking Hollywood films. But with this, the scenario has changed. What could be more rejoicing for everyone involved in the making of Kaabil! Kudos!!
