Nirmala Sitharaman on H1-B and L1 visa programme: India will now take up the measure on the H1-B visa and L1 work visa programmes as proposed by UP President-elect Donald Trump after he assumes office on Jan 20. India has been in talks over its work visa issues with the Obama-led government as well, as said by Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry on Thursday.

Nirmala Sitharaman commenting on the statement made by Donald Trump’s Senator said (Times of India report said) – “Any move to make above work visas restrictive or make it expensive are not going to help. We have explained to the US implications of such a move in the strategic commercial dialogues that such a move will be counterproductive.”

“I understand that a bill in the Congress is being taken up. There are things which we are definitely going to engage with the Trump administration, just as we have done with the Obama administration”, she added.
Sitharaman said that the jobs that are created are going to benefit both the nations accompanied by Indian services and Indian exports. She claimed that the Indian investments in the US have given rise to greater job creation in the states and said that – “It’s simply wrong to think that we’re in totally open world and that any American with a job can be replaced if somebody in the world is willing to take a job for less pay.”
