Tamil Nadu chief secretary: Income Tax Department on Wednesday instigated a search and survey operation on 13 locations belonging to Tamil Nadu chief secretary P Rama Mohan Rao, his son and other relatives in Chennai, Bangalore, and Chittoor after an allegation of corruption.
I-T officials told TOI that the raids initiated at the Rao’s house in Anna Nagar here at 5.30 am where more than 20 I-T sleuths are conducting the raids at his house.
I-T dept had received information that Rao is in contact with Mining Tycoon
I-T department had received the information that Rao is in alleged contact with sand mining tycoon J Shekar Reddy and others. After that, the department carried out the raids at his residence.
The officials from Income tax department were recently conducted the raids on the premises of Shekar Reddy and his brother Srunivasasalu in Chennai and Vellore from where sleuths seized Rs 136 crore in old and new currency notes and gold worth Rs 177crore from both. A case has been registered against Shekhar Reddy and others for alleged money laundering by CBI and Enforcement Directorate.
Reddy was seen with CM O Pannerselvam
Event the raids on Reddy’s premises had raised eyebrows within the AIADMK as he has associated with the party. He is now a member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board. He was also seen with the present Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in 2014 when he visited the temple as the gesture of thanksgiving after Jayalalithaa was released from the Bengaluru jail. She was sent to jail in the disproportionate property case.
