Rihanna came up with her new song “Lift Me Up” to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
After the 2016 album Anti, this is her first solo music.
The lead single from Rihanna’s upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released on Friday, a day after the film’s Hollywood premiere.
The song, titled “Lift Me Up,” marks Rihanna’s return after becoming a mother for the first time, as well as her first piece of original music since 2016. She has been on long break since then, and the song is expected to usher in the next chapter of her career.
The song pays tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman and is included on the soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. At age 43, the Black Panther actor passed away from colon cancer in August 2020.
Tems who co-wrote track with Rihanna said, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them”
Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler said, “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor”
Göransson produced the song, which was recorded in five countries. The complete soundtrack will be available on November 4th.
About a week ago, rumors of Rihanna’s involvement with the soundtrack album first surfaced. They were confirmed when she hinted at the song on social media and then made an unexpected appearance at the movie premiere.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which hits theatres on November 11, also stars Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Dominique Thorne, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Michaela Coel, and Tenoch Huerta.
