What came in as sad news yesterday for every Dell tablet user, seems to be very true and be really happening around. Yes, DELL has discontinued its Android tablets to concentrate on something else. Well, by something else we mean Windows 2-in-1 devices. DELL says that it wants to do away with focusing on slate style tablets. The company seems to be following its trend of discontinuing its Android devices which has now come to this. Like back in 2012, Dell put an end to the sale of Venue smartphones.
On one hand, while DELL is doing so with its Android devices, it is innovating with the OS. For instance one can recall Venue 8 7000 tablet. Some of its highlights were a 3D Real Sense camera and not to forget the OLED screen.
For the customers, DELL won’t be rolling out OS upgrades for the Android tablets. However Dell will continue and abide by all the warranties and contracts presently active on all devices till they expire.
Now that there is no more of Android devices with Dell, we’re left only with the 2-in-1s and laptops obviously. HP and Lenovo too have been doing the same, i.e. doing away with the low cost android tablets. Both companies have come to selling fewer and fewer Android tablets. In fact Lenovo too is trying to focus on the 2-in-1s.
Dell is very soon going to merge with EMC in a $67 billion deal. To create capital for the deal, Dell will be selling its software group equity to a few companies. Whatever it is, we wish Dell all the best for its endeavors.
