Parrikar follows Kejriwal: Following the footsteps of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Defence minister Manohar Parrikar told folks of a slum in Goa that it is okay to accept Rs 500 from the candidate but cast their vote for the BJP only.
“I understand if someone organises a rally and you take Rs 500 for moving around with (the candidate), that is not a problem. But when you vote, choose the lotus (BJP’s poll symbol). This you must remember,” Parrikar told the people at Chimbel in north Goa.
Election Commission earlier ordered Goa official to register case against Kejriwal over his remarks
It is worth mentioning here that the statement came on the same day when Election Commission ordered an FIR against Kejriwal over his poll bribery remarks. Earlier this month, Kejriwal had also asked people of Goa to accept money given by the candidates but vote for Aam Aadmi Party.
Addressing a rally in Goa on January 21, Kejriwal told people to accept bribes from the political parties that are offering it but cast their vote for AAP. He had also asked people at the rally held on January 8 to demand Rs 10,000 when offered 5,000 by the rival political parties in the new currency.
The Election Commission pulled him for targeting the poll panel and asked Goa officials to take seriously the matter and file an FIR against him.
Parrikar follows Kejriwal: EC warned to derecognise of AAP if Kejriwal would not stop making such statement
In the letter to Kejriwal, EC said, “The substance, tone and tenor of the address/interview are not only baseless and scurrilous but also unethical and highly depreciable against Election Commission, a constitutional authority.”
The EC said that such were an exhortation to accept bribes. It also warned that if he doesn’t stop making such statements, it would derecognize AAP.
