The ‘most powerful people in the world’ list mentioning the names of 74 people has been released by Forbes magazine on Wednesday in which Vladimir Putin has secured the first rank while the US President-elect Donald Trump is at the second place.
Only six women made it to the ‘most powerful people in the world’ list by Forbes magazine’, Angela Merkel maintaining the lead among the women, securing the third rank.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has been placed at 9th rank in the list, recently, he had won the Reader’s poll for TIME Person of the year, however, in the final list Donald Trump was placed at first rank.
- German Chancellor Angela Merkel ranked at third place.
- Chair of the US Federal Reserve System’s Board of Governors Janet Yellen ranked at sixth place and
- UK PM Theresa May ranked at 13th place.
- International Monetary Fund Chief Christine Lagarde at 25th place
- IBM Chairperson/President/CEO Ginni Rometty 61st place
- General Motors Chairperson/CEO Mary Barra at 62nd place
The magazine wrote – “Russia’s President has exerted his country’s influence in nearly every corner of the globe…From the motherland to Syria to the US Presidential elections, Putin continues to get what he wants.”
The article further read, Vladimir Putin “is unconstrained by conventional global norms (and) his reach has magnified in recent years.”
While the US President-elect Donald Trump “has a seeming immunity to a scandal, both houses of Congress on his side and a personal net worth in the billions.”
The names of “hundreds of candidates from various walks of life all around the globe” are taken into consideration and their influence over various matters amounting to international importance are also gauged and then the list is finalised.
Barack Obama was featured at 48th rank, while he was placed at the second position in 2015 list. Many renowned names were missing from the list including Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Indira Nooyi, however, these names have been included in the ‘most powerful women in the world’ list.
