Rahman Oscar Nomination: It could be a double hex for Indian music maestro A R Rahman once again at Music Academy awards. This time his name features in a long list of 145 scores in contention for a nomination in the Original Score category for the 89th Academy Awards. His work for the sports biopic Pele: Birth of a legend has been acknowledged.
Pele: Birth of a Legend is an American biographical Film about the early life of the Brazilian Footballer Pele, starring Kevin de Paula as a young icon. The movie was released in May.
Rahman Oscar Nomination for Pele: Best In Original Song and Score!
The film song ‘Ginga’ which was composed by Rahman to celebrate Pele’s soccer legacy is a part of 91 songs competing for nominations in the original song category.
In an Interview, A R Rahman was quoted as saying, “When I was approached for the project, I first Googled who Pele was because my life is all music. I saw amazing things about him and who he was.”
Nominations for next year’s Oscars will be announced on January 24 and the main ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood on February 26, 2017.
A R Rahman had earlier made India proud with his twin win at Academy Awards for his music in Slumdog Millionaire. He won for his best original score and also the best original song Jai Ho from the film starring Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan.
The lists of both the categories were released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on its official website.
