Netflix has recently launched the trailer for Stranger Things season 4. However, release of Stranger Things Season 4 postponed until 2022. It confirms that the sci-fi series is postponed and it will return in 2022. Fans have been eagerly waiting for season-4, but now they have to wait longer. The third season of Stranger Things was released timely, marking the Independence Day theme on July 4, 2019. Season 3 ended on a dramatic note, with Hopper apparently killed and the Byers family leaving Hawkins with Eleven being depowered.
Now it has been more than two years since Stranger Things season 3 started streaming on Netflix. Here’s why production is taking so long.
Why Stranger Things Season-4 is Postponed?
SEASON 4 IS MUCH “SPRAWLING” THAN THE PREVIOUS ONES
The producers are filming Stranger Things season 4 on a very grand scale. Until now, the show has been centered around Georgia, but in season 4 there are a lot of location shots around the globe. The cast and crew traveled to Vilnius, Lithuania in late 2019, for filming multiple shots. They’re currently filming a significant portion of the series at Netflix’s studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As executive producer Shawn Levy recently told, “this is the first season where we have this sprawling geography, multiple location shoots.” This international production is naturally taking longer than earlier ones. He also added that the new season will be “sprawling,” and that it’s much more enthusiastic than the first three. This explains why Stranger Things Season 4 is postponed to 2022.
COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Another reason is the COVID pandemic due to which shooting has gone through multiple halts, otherwise, the fourth season might have been telecasted last year.
Recently, producer Shawn Levy spoke in an interview about Stranger Things 4. According to Levy,
“The delay is due in large measure to COVID and the pace at which we have to work to do so safely, but it also happens to be the season that we chose to go much bigger,” Levy explained when asked about the long wait. “It’s the scale of this season and the multi-settings of Season 4.”
Furthermore, all of the series regulars will be featuring in season 4, including Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Winona Ryder, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, and Joe Keery.
Moreover, filming of season 4 began in February 2020, but all Netflix productions halted in March due to the pandemic and its associated lockdowns; Stranger Things resumed production only after November. The Duffer brothers used this as an opportunity to work on the scripts. According to Levy, this allowed the team to conduct a lot more rewrites than usual, “so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, may be better than ever,” he highlighted.
Conclusion
To sum up, production may have resumed again, but unfortunately, the pandemic is still effective. Filming takes time because of additional health and safety protocols and requirements. Sadly, all these factors have delayed the production and release of Stranger Things season 4 and it has been postponed. It won’t be coming out until 2022. As Netflix has released Sneak peeks of season-4, fans are damn sure and excited that it will certainly be worth the wait!
