Vodafone Idea merger: Bharti enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal recently said that the Vodafone and Idea can be the ‘perfect match’ hinting at a possible merger of the two of the largest telecom industries in the market. Vodafone is the second largest telecom operator in the country while Idea Cellular is the third, the merger of these two might prove very beneficial their revenue charts and the customers as well.

“It’s a perfect match. If you look at it, the match is not bad. But you know I can’t sit at the minds of Vittorio and Kumar. The strength and weaknesses match very well. Rural-urban, structured portfolio…makes for a good business case and I would support it”, Sunil Bharti Mittal said at the 47th World Economic Forum Meet at Davos on Friday.
This statement by Mittal came as a response to the frequent queries about the probable merger of Vodafone with Idea Cellular or Reliance Jio. He clearly stated that in case a choice has to be made between the two, Vodafone India will be given preference. Mittal added – “One effect of Jio has been that the small operators are gone. I support consolidation in the industry, wherever we have seen two-three operators with large markets, they have been profitable, they have been able to make large investments and give a lot of revenue to the government.”
Bharti Airtel assumes the number one telecom industry position in the country.
