15 June 2016: On account of Ramzan, the AP State government to provide “Ramzan Tohfa” to nearly about 10 lakh families to the Muslim Community on the eve of Id-Ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan. The state is expected to spend about Rs.60 crore.
It is learned that during the eve of Id-Ul-Fitr, the Muslims families will receive gift hampers which consist of 5 kg wheat flour, 1 kg vermicelli, 2 kg sugar and 100-gram ghee. These gifts will be handed over to the families who are the BPL card holders to the Muslims community. These supplies of gifts will be commencing from 1 July to 7 July through ration shops across the state.
According to the reports, the cabinet sub-committee commence a meeting on Tuesday have formally approved the proposal and the civil suppliers were asked to make arrangements for the distribution.
The AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has also recently spent over Rs.600 crore gift hampers that distributed to different communities during the festive seasons not to miss any opportunity in promoting his name through gift hampers, says the reports.
This scheme has started in the year 2015 when the chief Minister have announced ‘Chandrana Sankranthi Kanuka’ (Pongal gift) that have spent to about 1.6 Crore in distributing gift hampers to the BPL families. Each BPL card holder has received worth Rs. 280 of gift hampers that consist of half kilo Palmolein oil, half kilo jaggery and red gram, one-kilo wheat flour, one kilo whole Bengal gram and 100 gm of ghee has been distributed by the civil supplies dealers across the state.
These supplies were distributed free of cost to different communities across the state in addition to the regular items supplied through ration shops.
The CM also has distributed gift hampers for the Christians during Christmas on the scheme of Chandrana Christmas Kanuka with white ration cards. The scheme consist of 1 kg Bengal gram and wheat flour, 100 ml of ghee, half kg jiggery and red gram and half litre palm oil which have been distributed to the Christians. This scheme has been spent over Rs. 35 crore in 2015.
The state government have spent enormous amount meeting the people’s need, the government is incidentally reeling under severe financial critical situation. The government has directed all the departments to stop asking for the funds other than to pay salaries to employees.
It is learned that, earlier, the state government have put certain restrictions on foreign policy trips and all other official trips, as per the reports.
