15 June 2016: In a brutal incident, nearly 50 stray dogs have been burnt alive and few poisoned last week on Sunday as it was causing damaged to the goats. The charred carcasses of the dogs were found in the agricultural field, said the source.
According to P Ashwath an animal activist said that a village that having close to 100 dogs overnight but have now left with 15 dogs suddenly. Ashwath has visited the village after he was informed regarding this brutality acts.
Later, it was found that two brothers Muthu and Murugadoss are the main culprits behind this brutal act of killing the stray dogs as a result of revenge for attacking their goats.
He also said that nearly 70 stray dogs have been poisoned out of which 50 dogs are charred to death by the use of kerosene.
Ashwath an Activist as well as an engineering student along with his other two friends have reportedly visited the village after four days of the incident, yet still the remains of the charred carcasses have not yet been cleared and the foul smell spreading everywhere. He added that “by this time several crows, birds, cats had also died of feeding on these carcasses, so we put as many as we could find into gunny bags to prevent any further infection”, and later the carcasses were exhumed using the coconut and palm leaves to dispel the smell, according to the source.
It is also learned that many other dogs have also died after the consumption of some portions of meat from the charred carcasses that laced with agricultural pesticide, as stated by the village folk.
Later, the Melmaruvathur officials have registered an FIR under IPC section 429 and the prevention of the Cruelty to animals Act, 1960.
