Seems like chai is the harbinger of fame to people in the year 2016. After the Pakistani Chaiwala, whose mesmerising looks stole thousands of hearts around the globe, its the Indian-origin “Chaiwali”, Upmma Virdi who has made it big through her “Chai-walli” venture in Australia.

Upmma Virdi, the 26-year-old lawyer was awarded the title of Businesswoman of the year 2016 at Indian Australian Business and Community Awards (IABCA) in Sydney. It was her excellent tea-brewing quality that fetched her this title.
Upmma Virdi learnt the tea-brewing skills from her grandfather who is a homoeopath. He used to treat his patients’ ailments with his Ayurvedic tea. From there she decided to bring the powerful Ayurvedic tea to the lands of Australia and let its people benefit from it.

“The tea at cafes in western countries is too spicy, it’s not the real tea. I tell them how to make it. Our masala tea is meant to be soothing, calming… The real tea is remedial, aromatic, subtle”

She said that she started off with making tea for friends and family out of her passion. But then she realised that she could turn it into a business and gladly she was able to do it. She calls herself the Chai making lawyer. She said that she has also taught all her lawyer friends her tea-making skills.
