Years before Twilight franchise which became the popular Vampire romantic drama, There was a reign of a different kind of fiction, a different tale which featured seductive vampires. Fans have always been fond of The Vampire chronicles franchise. The popular bloodsucker novel has always wooed the people. Perhaps, the introduction of the centuries-old vampire, Lestat de Lioncourt is soon going to hit the shelves. Alright, Annie Rice who is the author of the novel is returning back with the 12th edition which is going to hit the shelves next week. The Vampire chronicles so far consist of 11 novels.
The Vampire Saga initiated its cinematic life in 1994
The Vampire Chronicles franchise has not been confined to the cinematic realm. The popularly acclaimed movie (Interview with the vampire, 1994) starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise won many hearts and the movie did feature Louis and Lestat. Annie Rice was impressed by the way Tom Cruise acted in the movie, as earlier she was not happy about his casting. The second movie which was out in 2002 was also adapted from the Rice book Queen of the Damned starring Stuart Townsend as Lestat. The movie met its demise after it got the negative response from the audience.
Anne Rice to Develop the series
Universal pictures and Imagine Entertainment acquired the rights of The Vampire Chronicles in 2014. The studio had plans to redevelop the movie again for the big screen. Now, those plans have gone in the air because Annie Rice announced on her Facebook page that, she has acquired the film rights to her novel. She also reported that the popular saga, The Vampire Chronicles shall get a TV adaptation.
Series to Focus on The Vampire, Lestat
According to Rice, The Vampire Chronicles TV series will center on Lestat. The series will begin telling about his origins going on the footsteps of the second novel The Vampire Lestat. Anne Rice will also develop the pilot episode script after that she will look after the creative outline of series. In all these developments, her son Christopher will help her. The mother-son duo will start meeting the producers to get the project into motion. Anne and Christopher have plans to serve as the executive producer of the famous vampire saga.
As we know that, the age of TV is becoming big and huge projects are adapting themselves to the small screen. Moreover, the complex stories and characters whereabouts cannot be explained through films. This makes a perfect sense of bringing The Vampire Chronicles to TV. Currently, the series is in developments and it’s hard to imagine that a saga like The Vampire Chronicles has to wait this long.
