PEW report: A report of Punjab Election Watch- a civil watchdog for improving electoral processes has revealed that assets of 94 MLAs contesting polls on February 4 from Punjab which increased up to 28 percent.
Sidhu grew three times in assets
Interestingly, Navjot Singh Sidhu who has recently joined Congress and contesting election from Amritsar East constituency assets have risen to Rs 45.90 crore from 14.50crore which he had declared during 2009 Lok sabha elections.
Percentage increase in assets for 94MLAs contesting assembly polls this year was 28 percent while average assets in complete terms were Rs 13.79 crore from 2012 to till 2017, said PEW state-coordinator Jaskirat Singh at the time of releasing a report of analysis of assets comparison of 94 legislators.
PEW is a partner of the Association of Democratic Reforms said the report was brought out after analysing the declaration filed by these 94 candidates during 2012 and 2017.
PEW report: Rana is the top candidate in assets among all 94 candidates
Talking about these legislatures’ assets, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann who will take on Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal from Jalalabad has dropped to Rs 1.99 from Rs 4.30crore declared in 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Jaskirat while giving party-wise details said the average increase in assets of nominees of SAD, Congress and BJP were Rs 1.67 crore (17.26 per cent), Rs 4.96 crore (35.64 per cent) and Rs 1.20 lakh (0.44 per cent) respectively.
When it comes to the top-five candidates highest in assets from Congress and SAD nominee, Rana Gurjit Singh one of the top-most candidates from Congress who has risen in assets with 148 per cent (Rs 101.41 crore) during 2017 as compared to assets declared during 2012 elections. Rana is contesting election from Kapurthala who has submitted a declaration of Rs 169.89 crore.
Sundar Sham Arora from Hoshiarpur from Congress is on the second number with total assets of Rs 22.83 crore (105 per cent) to Rs 44.60 during 2017 polls. Sunil Jakhar congress candidate from Fazilka is on rank with total assets of Rs 17.21crore (252per cent) and former CLP leader declared his assets size of Rs 24.05 crore in his declaration filed for contesting polls.
